چکیده

This paper is an extended version of a previous [1] published at ICAT-EGVE 2020. We explored the potential impact threat occurrence and repeatability on users’ Sense Embodiment (SoE) response. To that aim, we conducted experiment in which participants were embodied virtual avatar, performed task towards body was introduced first time, then repeated several times through (in total 5 times). The SoE as well their subjective response to assessed questionnaires before introduction threat, after end experiment. A control group did same with no during task. main findings our are does not alter but might change behaviour while performing occurrence. In addition, repetitions show any effect SoE, or objective responses threat. Taken together, results suggest embodiment studies should expect doing introduced, repetition do seem measure (subective ratings) nor (physical reaction threat).

The virtual-hand illusion: effects of impact and threat on perceived ownership and affective resonance

The rubber hand illusion refers to the observation that participants perceive "body ownership" for a rubber hand if it moves, or is stroked in synchrony with the participant's real (covered) hand. Research indicates that events targeting artificial body parts can trigger affective responses (affective resonance) only with perceived body ownership, while neuroscientific findings suggest affectiv...

Effects of physical threat and ego threat on eating behavior.

Restrained and unrestrained subjects were subjected to one of three distress manipulations prior to an ad lib taste task. The physical fear threat (anticipated electric shock) significantly decreased unrestrained subjects' eating and slightly increased restrained subjects' eating. Both ego threats (failure at an easy task or anticipating having to give a speech in front of an evaluative audienc...

Larger Volume and Different Activation of the Brain in Response to Threat in Military Officers

Introduction: Military missions involve stressful and life-threatening situations; however, soldiers should have a healthy cognition on the battlefield despite their high-stress levels. This is an ability that should be gained during prior military training. Successful and influential training is suggested to be associated with structural and functional improvements of the brain. Methods: This...

Does imminent threat capture and hold attention?

According to models of attention and emotion, threat captures and holds attention. In behavioral tasks, robust evidence has been found for attentional holding but not for attentional capture by threat. An important explanation for the absence of attentional capture effects is that the visual stimuli used posed no genuine threat. The present study investigated whether visual cues that signal an ...

Threat of bodily harm has opposing effects on cognition.

Several theoretical frameworks have suggested that anxiety/stress impairs cognitive performance. A competing prediction is made by attentional narrowing models that predict that stress decreases the processing of task-irrelevant items, thus benefiting performance when task-irrelevant information interferes with behavior. Critically, previous studies have not evaluated these competing frameworks...
